Four remotely controlled vertical lifting platforms
(10MT) for the XTDV-CERN

The above project consists of the design and manufacturing of four remotely-controlled lifting platforms of lift capability of 10 tons of mass. These lifting platforms will be integrated in the construction of the beam dumps (“XTDV”) in the SPS North Area experimental hall at CERN.

Special requirements such as radiation resistance, easy and fast power unit replacement and positiong control should be met.

Thermo-mechanical stress-strain analysis of a 2 GW (thermal) evaporator tube-wall

The project objective was to determine stresses and strains on the tube-walls of a 2 GW (thermal output) evaporator. The determination of the stress and strain fields were essential for the failure areas investigation and the conditions under which crack propagation is induced. The biggest problem that was encountered was the large scale inhomogenity and complexity of the tube-walls geometry combined with the overly large size (in terms of FE analysis) of a full solid model using the exact geometry. The problem was both successfully and accurately resolved employing homogenization techniques and Shells’ theory.
